This week, we will begin to add research to our Critical Essay. For your first post, you will break down your thesis into claims and counter claims. You will create a simple topic outline and find a source to support each claim. At least two of the sources must be from the Keiser Library databases. One source must be a quotation from your textbook. The fourth source can be from your book, another book, the databases, or a credible online source. Sample provided Initial post: Outline with four sources. A brief statement about your research including one thing you learned or discovered about your topic. Peer responses (2): Comment on the reliability, relevancy, and accuracy of format on their sources. Offer a suggestion on how to strengthen the flow or organization of their outline. This below was my first post TOPIC: PHILOSOPHY, ETHICS AND RELIGION: ARE THERE STILL RULES? THESIS The moral standards of society have been tried over and over with age. Philosophy, Ethics and Religion has taken the worst turn in my opinion. i.Basic Truths in religion, philosophy and ethics. ii. ii. How the teachings of moral standards have changed over the years. iii. iii. General world views on the topic, “Philosophy, Ethics and Religion: Are there still rules?” iv.iv. Biblical interpretations. Introduction I chose this topic simply because it really influences my everyday existence. The field of ethics or rather the moral philosophy simply involves systematizing, defending, and recommendation of the right and wrong concepts of philosophical behavior, Ethics and Religion. Philosophy, Ethics and Religion in my opinion is and I stress much on ‘is’, the value and the structure of that which we actually call life. In other words, Ethics, Philosophy and religion is not limited to specific acts and defined moral codes, but they encompass the whole of moral ideals and behaviors, a person’s philosophy of life. On the contrary, the activity that we today call religion is but complex and that the religious and non-religious people similarly often share the same misperceptions. “Today in the west, it is often assumed that religion is all about the supernatural and that it is inseparable from belief in an external, personalized deity. Critics claim that religion encourages escapist fantasies that cannot be verified.” “Yet we find something very different when we look back to the period that the German philosopher Karl Jaspers called the “Axial Age” (c.900 to 200BCE) because it proved to be pivotal to the spiritual development of humanity”. Armstrong argues that there are two sources of knowledge in the world which I strongly stand to defend, these are the logos, which is rationality, and the other is mythos, a synonym for untruth simply referring to religion. Even though Armstrong gives many examples of how religion changes as the needs of human’s change, my stand is based on the logistics of religion and that religion is the pillar to mankind existence and correlation on the earth’s surface therefore there exists to date more rules and regulations to be embraced by man a case at hand are the biblical ten commandments and the laws that exists in the Koran.
