Part I. In response to feedback on your preliminary statement of topic, provide your final statement of topic in writing. (It may be that your preliminary statement of topic did not need revision. If so, just restate it here.)
Part II. Provide a typed, alphabetized list of six sources that you expect to use for your research paper. (If you later decide not to use a few of these sources, I will not be holding you to this list, but make a sincere effort to find six useful sources to include on the list.) The purposes of this assignment are to encourage you to begin your research as soon as possible, to permit me to help you to evaluate your sources, and to help you to prepare for the creation of the “Works Cited” page of your research paper.
For each source, include all publication information. For a book or article, this information would include, at a minimum, the following:
• Full names of author(s)
• Title
• Where it was published (for a book, the city and the name of the publisher, and for an article, the name of the periodical)
• Date of publication
• Page numbers for an article
If any of your sources are not books or articles (electronic sources or nonprint sources), see the Purdue OWL to find out what types of material you need to include for that type of source.
Do not just submit URLs without the information itemized above. Doing so is poor classroom etiquette, because it requires me to go look up the sources to determine what they are.
In addition to the publication information, also provide a one- or two-sentence description of the source. The description should indicate how you would use the source in your paper. Here is an example: “This article supplies useful background information on the origins of the stock market. The background information might be useful in my introduction.”
