APOLOGETICS APPLICATION PAPER

Instructions for this submission:

Part 2: Make sure you read and understand the Apologetics Application Paper Instructions document before you attempt to complete any part of this form. Attempted submissions that do not use the submission form provided will not be accepted for credit.

To complete this part of the project, download this form to your computer, save it with a different file name using your last name and the assignment name, and type your submission directly in the space provided below. Do not change any aspect of the formatting, arrangement, or layout of this form. In the space below, provide the information indicated.

In this submission, you will provide the introduction paragraph for the final paper along with a detailed outline of what you will include in your final paper.

  1. Introduction Paragraph for Final Paper:

Type a refined draft of the introduction paragraph as you intend for it to appear in your final paper. While you can make revisions to this before the final paper is submitted, compose this version as close as possible to the final form.

The introduction will include only the following required elements:

  1. Identify the topic of the paper, the purpose of the paper, and the worldview you are writing about.
  2. State clearly in 1 sentence your main claim about the worldview you have selected. This is your thesis sentence. This sentence will be evaluative in nature and must be consistent with the instructions and goals of the assignment. (Example thesis: “This paper will show that atheism fails when evaluated by objective criteria and that Christianity provides a superior belief system.”)
  3. Give a concise overview of what you will present in the paper that supports the thesis.

  1. Complete Outline of Final Paper:

The outline must reflect that the body of the paper will address the required elements provided in the instructions. Therefore, it will have 4 sections corresponding to each of the 4 required elements. You are only required to provide an outline (a detailed description of the framework) for your final paper.

The basic outline for your paper will follow this structure:

Introduction

  1. Summary of the Worldview
  2. Evaluation of the Worldview
  3. Christian Alternative
  4. Defense of Christianity

Conclusion

For each section that follows, state the main idea and provide concisely as much detail as possible.

Section 1: Summary of the Worldview

Restate and build on what you submitted for Part 1, giving as much detail as possible about what you will say in the final paper. Each item must be 1 of the main categories of belief named in Chapter 4 of the Groothuis text. This section will reflect your progress in refining, restating, and expanding what you previously submitted.

(add as much as necessary to adequately summarize the main beliefs of the worldview)

Section 2: Evaluation of the Worldview

Restate and build on what you submitted for Part 1, giving as much detail as possible about what you will say in the final paper. Each item must be 1 of the main evaluation criteria named in Groothuis Chapter 3. You will not include all of them; just choose the ones that work best in evaluating the worldview of your selected audience. This section will reflect your progress in refining, restating, and expanding what you previously submitted.

(add as much as necessary to adequately evaluate the worldview)

Section 3: The Christian Alternative

Restate and build on what you submitted for Part 1, giving as much detail as possible about what you will say in the final paper. This section will be a direct parallel to the previous section, showing that Christianity is superior to the competing worldview when evaluated using the same criteria.

(add as much as necessary to adequately evaluate the worldview)

Section 4: Defense of Christianity

Build on what you submitted for Part 1, giving as much detail as possible about what you will say in the final paper. Take into consideration the evaluation and ideas you have presented so far and present a credible defense of Christianity that can be shared with someone who has the worldview you are writing about. The instructions indicate that this section of the paper must include at least 2 of the following subjects: the problem of evil, several arguments for God’s existence (these count as 1 of the required elements), defense of the resurrection of Jesus, defense of objective truth and moral values.

(adjust the number of points in this section of the outline, as appropriate)

Note that this submission does not require that you write your conclusion paragraph. When you do write it, keep in mind that the conclusion must give a brief summary of your paper. It gives an overview of the main points you used in your argument to defend your thesis. In many ways, the conclusion will parallel the introduction.

  1. Bibliography

In addition to your course textbooks, list at least 10 scholarly sources that you will use in your research for this paper. Abide by the guidelines and definitions of what a scholarly source is, as stated in the instructions.
