WK2 DISCUSSION
RESPONSE TO EILEEN
Hi Eileen, you are not alone. It sound embarrassing sometimes to relate to where i was when i started this journey and where i am today. It shouldn’t be because the key of succeeding in this program will be having an open mind, be a leader and not a follower, be assertive and not a doubter. Nothing is wrong until you share and get a variety of opinion and thought on the issue. You have all the cards.
“As a student, online or traditional, it will be your responsibility to actively pursue your educational goals. (Online College, 2011)
I don’t know about you, my nightmare is inculcating a writing style that will be in sync with the APA style. Certain things i found sounded basic but gave clarity why like, ” the active voice over the passive voice to create clear, concise sentences; however, remember that the passive voice can also be an appropriate choice under certain circumstances”.
(Chelsea Lee, 2016). There is no way around it than using all the resources we have at Walden. Take a few minutes and navigate the student portal and you will be amaze what you can use to make your life easy.
I have been in touch with my academic adviser. It is very helpful seeing things from their perspective and reinforcing the idea of surrounding yourself with people that will help you not only as a student but when you go out into the world as a scholar-practitioner. This a again is a follow up to week one’s discussion on the importance of an academic and professional networking team. “Scientists with an expanded network of contacts have an edge when it comes to grants, publications, awards, invitations to speak, coveted job offers, and promotions”. (Jennifer Streeter 2014)
I think you have all the character traits that will serve you well in this program. I will add that multitasking to me is the most important since we all have to joggle our already hectic work schedule and school work. According to Dabbagh (2007) ‘The quintessential academically successful online student can be described as self-motivated, self-directed, exhibiting an internal locus of control with above average executive functioning, communication, interaction and technological skills”. Keep your head up and know, we can do this.
I will leave you with this conclusion. “Take the time to assess your readiness and reflect on the traits listed above. While you may be a natural at some, others will require your attention and efforts to improve. Allow yourself time to acclimate to the online learning environment and expect to make a few mistakes in the process. These lessons learned will move your forward in your higher education journey”.(Online College, 2011)
