Ever since I was a young boy I have been interested in helping people who have been less fortunate in life.
Living in a area which is affected by poverty, drugs, high crime rates and bad education has motivated me to become a social worker so that I may help the community in improving on the issues I have mentioned and help people live their lives the best way possible and improve the society and environment they live in.
My chosen career, which is to become a social worker requires a well established background, meaning not only academic achievements but also relevant work or voluntary experiences that I possess.
I have worked in various places, one among which was an organisation dealing with youth offending that cooperates closely with social workers to prevent young offenders from re-offending and I am currently working as a care support worker who also cooperates with a social worker to provide support for mentally or physically disabled people.
Working as a care support worker and youth worker has given me a good understanding of a social workers’ role in the society which makes me more eager in pursuing my career.
At my previous place of study at the university of Central Lancashire where I was studying social policy, British welfare and various other subjects, I realised that I have strong opinions on certain issues and the desire to learn more about these subjects which will be covered in the social work degree.
I feel that becoming a social worker will bring many rewards because I feel great satisfaction in helping people through their hard times, and I would like to know they are doing well once they have overcome these problems.
