While understanding how significant personal health is I can say Essay

While understanding how significant personal health is I can say that I am cautious of my own personal health, and I am aware of what I need to do to stay well and healthy. With calculating a rate of 20.4 for BMI rating, therefore means that I am in the healthy BMI range for a male at the age of seventeen. I do think that I am quite healthy, but there are some habits and behaviors that are harmful to my health.

Especially with family history problems such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease, there are some things that I need to work on or I might have some issues in the future.

There are some unhealthy behaviors that I have recently changed. For example, I used to leave everything last minute which was causing me to have large amounts of stress. I would do all of my homework the day before it was due and sometimes I would even wake up at 4 o clock in the morning to do homework that was due that day.

It was important that I changed this bad habit quickly because ongoing stress can cause many serious health problems. Stress can cause cardiovascular disease, including heart disease, high blood pressure, abnormal heart rhythms, heart attacks, and stroke. It can also cause some mental health problems such as anxiety and depression. It was especially important that I change this behavior because of family history with high blood pressure and heart disease. I accomplished changing this behavior by planning in advance everything I had to do at the beginning of each week. I would separate all of the homework that I would have to do that week and assign a day that I would do each one so that it doesn’t pile up at the end of the week. I stuck with my study/homework schedule and eventually, it became a habit. This has helped me reduce the amount of stress I used to have, and it helped me keep my grades up.

Another unhealthy behavior that I have already changed is eating too much junk food. I used to eat a lot of unhealthy snacks on a regular basis such as potato chips, candy, popcorn, and other unhealthy snacks. I also used to eat at fast food restaurants more than I should have. I decided to change this unhealthy behavior because I realized that if I don’t change my ways then there would be some consequences in the future. Eating too much junk food on a regular basis can lead to some chronic diseases like obesity, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, liver damage, and even some cancers. Especially because of my family history of diabetes and heart disease, it was important that I change this behavior. I accomplished this goal by first realizing that I was eating too much junk food. Then I decided that I would decrease the number of days that I would eat at fast food restaurants during the month. I also would eat healthy snacks when I am hungry such as apple slices, oranges, strawberries, and greek yogurt. Also, instead of eating milk chocolate, I would eat dark chocolate.

There are a couple of unhealthy behaviors that I am currently contemplating changing. For example, I have an unhealthy behavior of not getting enough sleep. It is recommended that teenagers get about eight to ten hours of sleep, although, I am only getting about five to six hours of sleep on weekdays. This is greatly affecting how I perform at school because I am always tired and sometimes I would fall asleep during class. It is also really hard for me to focus when I am tired, and it is causing me to have a hard time to study for some subjects. There are also some major consequences that result from sleep deprivation. Sleep deprivation can put you at a higher risk of stroke, heart disease, and high blood pressure. I plan on changing this behavior by setting up a consistent sleep schedule that will allow me to get at least eight hours of sleep. I would also plan on finding ways to fall asleep because I have a hard time falling asleep before midnight.

Another unhealthy behavior that I am currently contemplating changing is the fact that I rarely ever eat breakfast. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It helps you concentrate and have a better memory. Eating breakfast will also reduce your risk of diabetes and heart disease. In addition, skipping breakfast can lead to weight gain because it will cause you to crave more fatty and sugary foods throughout the day. I plan on changing this behavior by trying to find some foods that I would enjoy for breakfast because the main reason I rarely eat breakfast is that I do not enjoy breakfast foods which would include toast, eggs, and cereal.

There are a couple of unhealthy behaviors that I engage in that I am not prepared to change. One of those behaviors would include not exercising enough. This behavior is causing me to be very unfit The reason I am not prepared to change this behavior is that I am too busy with school and work and when I have free time I am usually with friends. Another reason I am not prepared to change this behavior is that I don’t have anybody to go with because my brother left to college and my friends don’t go to the gym.

Another unhealthy behavior that I engage in that I am not prepared to change is that I use too much screen time. I am always on my phone and I spend too much time on the computer. I also watch a lot of television. I engage in this behavior because I rely too much on my phone for talking to friends and entertainment. This behavior is starting to have negative effects on my health. Too much screen time has affected my sleep because I stay up late at night using my phone. It has also affected how I perform in school because I am always so tired and it is hard for me to focus.

The dimensions of wellness are also important factors to my health.
