Capella`s Career Center Reflection
At the career center, a number of resources were available that are critical in career advancement. Most notably, is that the career center is equipped to help the one identity who they are, what careers are available outside and combining the information to navigate the career path. It is vital to assert that the career center is advantageous to a very large extent in helping candidates to market themselves and network to an array of opportunities and a wealth of alumni (Capella University Career Center, 2018). It is essential to mention the personalized career development that the institution has established for the students. Since different people have a different vision of their careers while others are also battling between their professions and careers, the center is indeed invaluable. Most important in the career center is the provision of mentoring in the career path where students are equipped to meet the best practices and values and be able to be prepared for their future responsibilities.
On completion of the degree program and realization of my potentiality and a vast ray of opportunities, I would like to give back to the society by also mentoring other students in the course of their studies by being an associate professor. It is a platform that would seem other students mentored and given the opportunity to discover themselves and settle on their career paths as early as possible. Consequently, it is an ideal stage to advance the career at the same place of work, or the same field of study, though at a senior level. Per se, looking for alternative jobs with job security and increased benefits that gives comfort would be a priority. It is satisfying to be a specialist in the specific field of study where meaningful contribution would still be made through research work and work experience thus helping in book publications.
The career center options which are vital to consider both at the institution and outside the institution in the future career navigation is mentorship and counselling. According to Petrus 2017, mentors are able to assist a mentee to go through certain work-related issues like relationship with coworkers, supervisors, career growth, opportunities, and improvement of the soft skills like communication, team relationships and conflict resolution, and decision making. It is important to have a mentor of the same career path or same values. The best place to build such a foundation is through the institution with a vast number of resources and professionals. The significance of a mentor to my career development is that is equips me with the necessary interpersonal skills which are critical in enhancing efficiency, effectiveness and productivity at the organizational level and at personal levels.
