General Purpose: To persuade.

Specific Purpose: After hearing my speech, I want my audience to agree that they have to be more critical of the shows they let children watch.

Thesis: Violence depicted on television can have strong life-long negative effects on children if adults do not do their part in censorship and child guidance.
