Stan Lee Essay

Stan Lee is one of the most famous comic writer, editor, producer, publisher, television personality. He wrote some the most well know comics. They then turned into movies. He also creates the movies of his comics. He grew up in a bad part of time. He is still living today. He has won many awards and honors. Stan Lee will always be remembered after he dies. Stan Lee was born on December 28th, 1922 in New York City. His parents were Romanian-born Jewish immigrants.

They were Celia and Jack Lieber. His father trained as a dress cutter, but worked sporadically during the Great Depression. He only had one brother. Lee attended DeWitt Clinton High School in the Bronx. He started writing when he was a teenager. He also graduated when he was 16.5 years old. Then joined the WPA Federal Theatre Project. During Lee’s early career he became an assistant in 1939 at the new timely comics division of pulp magazine and comic-book publisher.

In 1960s, he then became part of the Marvel Comic Company. He made one of the most famous comic and movie known as Captain America. Lee then joined the U.S Army. When he was in the Army he served stateside in the Signal Corps, writing manuals, training films, and slogan and titles. While Stan Lee was working with Marvel, DC comics’ editor Julius Schwartz wanted Lee to create a new superhero squad like the Justice League of America. Lee created a new type of superhero. Before superheroes were perfect people and had no serious or long lasting problems, but now Lee created the new type of superhero that was a complex naturalistic character who could have bad tempers, fits of melancholy, vanity; they bickered amongst themselves, worried about paying their bills and impressing girlfriends, got bored or even were sometimes physically ill.

The first comic Lee created was Fantastic Four with Jack Kirby. Lee created some of the most popular super heroes such as, Hulk, Iron Man, Thor, X-Men, Daredevil, Doctor Strange, and Spider Man. Also he makes an appearance in every movie he makes. On November 17th, 2008 Lee got rewarded the National Medal of Arts. In LA, California they declared a day just for him it’s on October 2nd. Lee won the Comic-Con Icon Award in 2009. Lee received the 2,428th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on January 4, 2011. He earned many other awards. Stan Lee is a very famous person. Not that many people know who he is though. Without him we would never have those great movies that we do today. Like Spider Man, Iron Man, Captain America, and many more.
