LANs, WANs, and MANs/Protocols/Wired, and Wireless are the types of network in IT industry.

So if we want to communicate between two or more computers that are interconnected with each other we have to use one of the above mentioned networks. It may be LAN, WAN, MAN/ Protocol/Wired and wireless.

Because each networks has its own range and usage

LAN: LAN is stands for Local Area Network. In which the computers are interconnected with each other with in a limited area such as school, office, university etc.

WAN: Wide Area Network. In WAN computer networks that extend the large distance. It may be between two cities, two states. WAN tends to use “external” cabling such as a phone network or a cable company’s fibre optic network.

MAN: Metropolitan area network. It is a larger network that usually span between two buildings in same city or town.

So according to the usage of IT industry they may opt one of them there is not standard solution for the networks.
