Concern over privacy occurs whererver personal identifiable information or sensitive information is collected, stored, used, and finally trashed or deleted – in the digital format. Lack of control can be the root cause for privacy issues. Data privacy issues may occur in a response to information from a vast range of sources, such as: Financial, criminal, medical or healthcare related, political, educational, locational etc.Challenges of data privacy is how to utilize data while protecting preferences of individual privacy and their personal identifiable information. Computer security, data security, and information security concentrates on designing and utilizin software, hardware, and human resources to address this sort of issue. Laws and regulations relating to Privacy and Data Protection are frequently changing, hence it is important to keep oneself uptodate of any such changes in the law and to continually assess compliance with data privacy and security related regulations.

Personal Privacy is the ability of an individual,to use information about themselves, and thereby an abilty to express themselves selectively within a self chosenoption.It is basically the right to freedom of access to information and sonfining their own information to themselves or to their chosen one. Some web sites even uses encrypted technology to ensure that all communications between an individual and the web site remains private and confidential. Some web-sites sends computer information when an individual is visiting the particular site and their computer can send the information back to the website whenever requested. This is precisely how the web-site remembers an individual when they return back to the same site yet again. Its is known as “cookie” and cookie can be used to remember information about an individual such as user names, preferences, etc. Most web browsers gives the option to allow or block cookies. These days confidence of consumers in information privacy is lacking majorly and that is identified as a major issue hampering the growth of e-commerce. Despite the importance of online consumers’ concerns for data privacy, very little attention is received among the information systems community.
