Each year Red Rock Colorado organizes several huge concerts. One is called “BPM Fest.” Some 100,000 fans attend the Fest. Planning for the concert begins many months before the actual concert date. This year the concert will take place on the Saturday of Labor Day weekend. Planning for the concert just began. days before the event. As a recent operations management graduate, you have been hired to help schedule this year’s concert. You will have to plan on a work schedule of seven days a week to meet the concert deadline. Below is a table detailing the specific activities associated with staging the BPM Fest. Included in the table are precedence activities, the normal amount of time and normal amount of cost associated with each task, as well as, the number of days an activity can be shortened to and its total cost to crash to that time. For this case you are to: 1) Using your POM software, enter the activities, durations and predecessors under “Normal” conditions. Print this entry screen. This is your “Before” entry screen. 2) Once these activities are entered, print the Precedence Graph. This will be your “Before” Network Diagram. 3) Identify the Critical Path in you initial diagram. 4) Print the Slack Table for your initial diagram S) Now, shorten this project so that the concert can take place as planned on Saturday of Labor Day weekend. Identify the tasks you will shorten to achieve this goal and adjust the durations of these activities so that the “finish time” indicates the concert can take place as scheduled. This is your “after” or “Crashed” entry screen. What is the Total Cost of putting on this concert and how much extra (total crashing cost) did you have to spend to get the concert on schedule? 6) Data adapted from case prepared by Gary LaPoint, School of Management, Syracuse University
