Local health departments (LHDs) has the most complex and difficult role in the United Sates as the front line for facilitating the basis healthcare services to almost all the section and elements of the communities. United States has more than 3000 Local health departments (LHDs) which have different geographic size, size and nature of population, urban and rural mix, economic circumstances, governmental structure under which these have to perform the activities of healthcare facilitation. These are also accountable for the governing organization .
Most of the time, these units provides a wide array of healthcare services to the very diverse communities despite having very limited resources and the staff. In fact the average size is 14 full time employees. Despite being considered as 10 Essential Public Health Services, these local health departments provides the health care services which varies in a large extent in order to meet the different healthcare requirements of varying from state to state, from urban to rural areas, and they must be ready to address the local healthcare priorities.
