Symbolism is added to this story, such as wind chimes,The jade peony and the cat.Most influencing symbol in the story is the white cat which has red eyes and appears right outside the house. Cat symbolizes in the story that grandma’s time is close . She must move to her next life where she is going to be reunited with the juggler.Cat makes her remember about her lover and takes her back into her meories.Cat reveals in the end of the story that he make her remember of her lover.She actually thought that the cat was sent by his old lover to take her to him. As she saw the cat , She was ready and prepared to die and she refused to go the hospital.. Her traditions made her stop to the house she was living in.The cat was there to bring her to her lover.This specific symbolism shows the strength of gandma’s traditions.
Wind chimes were the fine symbol of freedom for their family, Family that went down searching for the pieces to glue them back together.This represent the passing of the cultures in Chinese tradition and specifically symbolizes there culuture. Before the grandma died , She and the author constructed a wind chime to hang it on the window, for indicating her family about her comeback.
