1. Strengths – As Google’s CEO Sundar Pichai’s key strength is that he puts in focused effort and is highly result oriented. This enables him to devise and implement strategy for Google that enables the organization to achieve its goals in the most effective and efficient manner. He believes in hard work and takes informed decisions based on research and analysis. Another key strength of Sunder Pichai as Google’s CEO is that his execution is precise and very strong. Lastly Mr. Pichai is highly disciplined and has instilled the same values within Google. This has helped in making the employees more hard working, more focused and more disciplined.

Weaknesses – In terms of weaknesses Mr. Pichai is his inability to accept defeat. Secondly, as a CEO Mr. Pichai should be more forthcoming. Lastly Mr. Pichai has a tendency to say yes to everything. This sometimes prevents him from making tough decisions.

2. As a leader Sundar Pichai has taken several risks, most of them being calculated and well judged risks. As a leader he took the decision to fire James Damore in an effort to foster a safe workplace. There was a tradeoff between freedom of speech and fostering a safe workplace. Pichai did not select to do a balancing act between the two and instead wanted to put all emphasis and focus on fostering a safe workplace. This is a risk that Pichai has taken to improve the level of employee safety at Google, even if it means curtailing the latitude that employees have to express their opinions freely. This risk was taken by Pichai as a leader to change the organization (Google) for good. This risk was taken to ensure that work environment at Google is not at all hostile but amicable for all employees. This will help in increasing the morale of the employees in the long run.
