This is because historically, men have dominated women in many facets of their lives. Till the early 19^thcentury, women were having very minimal rights across the globe. As the education started to grow with scientific and social advancements, women started realizing their rights to equality and started asking for it. They, apart from being the house makers, started doing various jobs to earn money and to gain confidence and self-respect.

However, there was no pressure from the men to participate in household work. They were just playing the role of bread earner for the family. In modern time, as they are being sensitive about the equal rights and responsibilities of both women and men, they have started taking up household work, but predominantly, they are still the main earning member of the family. On the other hand, women have to take care of family and their jobs simultaneously and hence they are overburdened with many tasks.
