Terrence is 18 years old and just graduated high school (where he had a 4.0 average).Terrence has a interview today for a summer internship.Terrence is a wheelchair user. Question:Do you think there is a chance that the interviewer might not ask Terrence the same interview questions he or she would ask of someone who isn’t in a wheelchair?why or why not?
Expert Answer
In my opinion, two events may happen.
The first situation is hypothetical and has a very low probability of occurrence. Under this situation, the interviewer is completely unbiased and does not ask any special question to Terrence and confined the interview within the boundary of questions that are related to the internship and its desirables.
In a more general situation, the interviewer (since he/ she gets a new visual signal from Terrence due to her disability) may ask some direct questions regarding the disability and whether Terrence would be able to do the internship with this problem or not. The interviewer may also get biased towards Terrence and may get sympathetic towards her which may affect the quality of questions and answers of the interview. I believe that the probability of occurrence of the second event is higher that the first.
