Should sweatshops be included in Junipers efforts since they are not technically slavery or indentured servitude since the employee can leave at any time?
Expert Answer
No they should not be included in Juniper efforts to make them acceptable. The sweatshops are not technical slavery, or indentured servitude since the employee can leave at any time. However the poor labor conditions of workers, in a sweatshop can be a big threat to the working conditions of employees. There are signs of abuse in many sweatshops. Few of the shops of Nike were famous for very poor working conditions: including slave wages, forced overtime, and arbitrary abuse. That could be quite dangerous for everyone involved. Also the example of Nike does show a case in point that abusive minimum wages can be a potential threat for everyone. The company has to turn its image around, and really focus on making the conditions better. Sweatshops cannot be justified, or legitimized as there are various casual incidents of professionals hitting a dead end at the company.
