Organizations with low turnover and satisfied employees tend to perform better. On the other side of the coin, organizations have to act when an employee’s performance consistently falls short. Based on these concepts, organizations may distinguish between involuntary and voluntary turnover, recognize their effects on the organization, develop measures to encourage top performers to stay, and develop ways to manage the separation process fairly. Any organization wants to retain good performers and encourage or force low performing employees to leave There are two types of employee turnover. Involuntary turnover occurs when the employer requires employees to leave, often when they would prefer to stay. This action may potentially result in lawsuits and violence Voluntary turnover occurs when employees initiate the turnover, often when the organization would prefer to keep them. These employees may retire or leave to work with different organizations. Both types of turnovers are costly because of subsequent needs to recruit, hire, and tram replacements. Here Voluntary and involuntary turnover have been defined in the question . Employment at will doctrine has not been defined . Let me define it so that selection is easier . As per  employment at will doctrine an employer can only terminate an employee if the cause is illegal and an employee can leave an employer only if there are no legal adverse consequence as a result of them .

Now let us analyze the reasons for what we have selected .

Retirement : Here employees do not have any choice and have to retire voluntry as per the age specified by the government . It can be voluntary early retirement also if the employees wants to retire early from work.

Careers : Some employees goes off in search of better career opportunities elsewhere .

Better Job : This is again voluntary turnover as employees choose other employers for better jobs.

Promise : This is from the point of view of organizations if they want to lower voluntary turnovers they should not make false promises to dent their confidence in the organization.

Refusing : This is again from the point of view of organizations where organizations to reduce voluntary turnovers should train employees to not to refuse to accept constructive criticism which is a part of every job where there will be mistakes and some body will have to criticize so that these do not happen again . This criticism should be taken constructively because sometimes it is necessary.

Employee lay off is involuntary as employees do not want to layed off but are layed off because of maybe downturn.

Worplace voilence may be an after effect of Employee off which pertains to involuntary turnover .

Violating pertains to employment at will doctrine where an employer can remove an employee only if he does some thing illegal which be violation.

Any reason pertains to employment at will doctrine as an employee can leave any employer for any reason only if there are no legal adverse consequence as a result of that.
