How does the 802.11i standard (WPA) attempt to address the problems with WEP?
Expert Answer
WEP is Wireless Equivalent Protocol like the name implies it is used to perform wireless transmission with high security. It allows the security by access control ,data integrity and is also based on the use of several keys.
However several flaws in these allows both passive and active attack that allows the eavesdropping of the wireless Transmission.
Here Comes the 802.11i Standard which is the draft standard, WPA(Wireless Protected access which can defend against many problems inherit from the WEP.
WPA is subset of full implementation of the 802.11i which is designed such that it could be easily implemented as software and also act as firmware upgrade to existing Wireless access Point.
802.11i improves upon WIFI protected access by implementing the AES Advandced encryption Standard for key Rotation.
