First let us understand the meaning of a tea,. Team is a group of individuals who come together for a common purpose.

Every team in the workplace have life cycle. And each team goes through this cycle and in every step. it faces different challenges, productivity, and different patterns of behavior.

It takes lot many practices to covert the unorganized group into a effective and strong team. Researcher has found that there are four phases of it.

  • Forming
  • Storming
  • Norming
  • Performing

Forming- When a group is formed everyone is pointed in different direction. There is chaos. It is the first stage when the team meets each other. People do not know what to expect. Here the team knows each other by sharing their background, interest, experiences. Here the team members develop confidence in them and they discuss about the project which they are going to work.

Here the role of team leader is to clearly explain the goal of the team what they are supposed to do what are their project and how effectively they should work. They should provide them direction.

Storming- Here the team starts work together. Here the team who have not worked together develop themselves to work in a team. Initially it is a challenge for them to work together as a team.

Individual responsibilities start here. At this early stage the team does not have trust.

Norming- Here the team members start taking responsibilities for the emotional and social well-being of the group as a whole. This is called group maintenance. In another words it is called rainbow after the storm. The team sets standard of working. Team members are more comfortable because a conflict of the forming stage is vanishing. From here The group begins to concentrate its attention on the aims or tasks of the group.

Performing- This is the stage when they have become a team truly. They have become comfortable and they are at their best, conflicts are down, problems have been solved. Here the enthusiasm and efficiency is seen. The team starts building interpersonal skill among them.
