Donatello’s work consisted of sculpture while Verrocchio’s work consisted of paintings as well as sculptures. Donatello’s work took inspiration from Italian Renaissance and he used his background in classical sculpture to develop a comprehensive Renaissance style in sculpture. Donatello primarily used stone, bronze, wood, clay and wax for creating pieces of art.
Verrocchio, on the other hand, was a painter, a sculptor, as well as a goldsmith.
Both Donatello and Verrocchio responded to the aesthetics of the Renaissance tradition in their own way. Their artwork adhered to the new humanism which was the cornerstone of renaissance. Experimentation and observation were pivotal elements of their art works.
