All multitasking and multiuser operating systems require a multitasking processor. But not all operating systems permit multiple concurrent users. Does Windows 7 provide for multiple concurrent users?

Expert Answer

 Multitasking:

Multitasking refers to a service which allows users to perform multiple tasks at the same time on a same system.

Multiuser operating system:

Multiuser operating systems allow multiple users from remote system using the same operating system to connect to the system.

All multitasking and multiuser operating systems require a multitasking processor which is able to give service for each of the user connected to the operating system. As multiple users are connected to the OS at the same time, therefore multiple processes can be created for multiple applications as more than one user are accessing multiple applications.

Does Windows 7 provides for multiple concurrent users?

The answer is NO.

Windows provides server version and non-server version. They differs in number of processors,RAM and also in UI. The UI in server version can be changed by changing some settings which is not possible for non-server versions. The server uses large amount of memory and provides multiple connections to the clientIn other words the servers are there for client which request to use services of servers. The non-server version restricts only one client( for PC).

RDP(Remote Desktop Protocol) protocol for server version allows multiple clients or remote clients to connect to the system. This type of system capacitates multiple processors to be able to provide services to the connected clients.
