POSTER DRAFT JUILLLET(2) corriger-1 Essay

To carry our study, we have to take a sample N = 200 individuals. The selected population contains adults over 18 years old and we questioned them. The questionnaire contains questions about dental hygiene, such as how many times a day your teeth are brushed or which toothbrush is used. The creation of the questionnaire was made on Google Dock and we have used the method of pre-pilot and pilot study consequently the questionnaire has been analyzed by one classmate and our professor. Later one, our virtual questionnaire has been posted on social platforms like Facebook, University group chat and also send to our surrounding.

We have tried to have the most diversified population. The survey has taken place from May, 8th to May 10th, 2019.Toothbrushing has evolved a lot along the time, and there are now many methods of brushing teeth, even different tools for realizing brushing such as electric or manual toothbrushes. Poor oral hygiene is a relevant problem in the world (1), since it leads to many oral disorders that could transform into systemic diseases.

This is why, as students in dentistry we have decided to study the different toothbrushing methods and habits. We have focused our study on people above 18 years old. We questioned them through a questionnaire. We will try to find out, what can influence toothbrushing. And also, if people brush their teeth well or not and if they are aware of it. For that we are going to compare the answers with the good methods of toothbrushing provided by a dentist. With our results from our sample population, we will try to understand the most recurrent mistake in the process. The aim of our study is to know if people have familiarities with the good toothbrushing technics, and also to bring advice to those who do not do it properly and ultimately make people’s oral hygiene better. Thereby, it has been proved from previous studies that a lot of people don’t brush their teeth correctly and are not aware about it (2) therefore we are expecting to obtain from our sample a certain amount of people that do not have the correct way of brushing and hopefully we could have an eye-opening effect on those people, and make an improvement in their oral hygiene by giving them some tricks and simple advice they can use to prevent the apparition of any oral disorder. As we can see in figure 1 and figure 2, our sample origin mainly comes from the European continent (43,5%) and in the majority, it is composed of women (56,5%). Figure 3 show that the most common duration of toothbrushing is between 1-2 minutes for 60% of the sample. According to figure 4, most of the sample (73%) population doesn’t use any dental devices in the oral hygiene routine: for example, only 25% used mouthwash. Finally, Figure 5, reveals that the surrounding is the most influential factor in learning of brushing teeth. Introduction Toothbrushing : Expectation VS Reality, studied on adults worldwide Milda Aitali, Melany Bourguignon Email : [email protected] Materials and MethodsConclusion Reference ListFigure 1: Pie charte of origin Figure 2: Pie charte of age In conclusion, our worldwide study sample population do not brush their teeth totally correctly even though the majority think they do. In fact, there is a contrast between the believes and the reality and we can correlate with who provides oral hygiene education: the surroundings, and much less the dentist. Also, we have learned that the most repetitive mistakes are focused in the time of brushing and the frequency of it. Also, the fact that people don’t have complete buccal health since they do not use enough complementary element of oral hygiene. Ultimately, in order to complete our study, a follow up to this one can be done a few years later, in which we hope to find out that there are even more people that will apply the right method: increases the brushing time duration and use mouthwash, interdental brushes and dental floss. Then we will do a CPI (Community Periodontal Index) test, which is in epidemiological test that detects periodontal diseases, and complete these with DMF Index (Decayed, Missing, Fixed teeth) and DEF Index (Decay, Extracted, Fixed teeth), that both help us rate the level of caries a patient has. Hopefully, the positive results of those test will decrease since the oral hygiene going to be more efficient. ResultatsThe study demonstrates that in our pandemic sample, the majority of people do not brush teeth with the totally correct method that the dentist would advise, but the level of oral health care is totally correct, but can obviously be improved. For example, it is recommended to brush our teeth during at least 3 minutes and the majority of our sample don’t have enough time of brushing. The brushing time is mostly between 1 at 2 minutes of brushing. And according to previous studies, it is demonstrated that the time of brushing influence the appearance of disease: ” Increasing brushing time increased plaque removal across ” (3) Another important factor is the use of dental accessory devices. Is really advise from the dentist to use for example mouthwash, interdental brushes, and floss because the toothbrush can’t reach all the surface of the tooth like the interdental space and the gingival sulcus which are the more susceptible part for dental plaque formation. It is proved from previous studies that the use of accessory oral hygiene accessor help keep a goal oral hygiene: ” provides strong evidence of the anti-plaque and anti-gingivitis effects of essential-oil-containing mouth-rinse” (4) Concerning the learning to brush teeth, we notice that most of the people oral health education come from the surrounding (family and friends). Therefore, most of the apprenticeship does not come from the dentist itself so, people are more likely to transmit errors to the next generation.
