The opening prayer was said at the commencement of the meeting by prof. D.A. Ogunba at 10:45 am
OPENING AND PRESENTATION OF AGENDA
The chairman welcomed members to the meeting and particularly to 2017/2018 academic session. He introduced Mr. M. Ogungbe as our new Teaching Assistant. Also Mr. Femi was introduced in absence as an industrial attachment candidate in the Department.
The chairman presented the agenda for the meeting and inclusions were made by members. Dr. A.O. Adewusi moved motion for the adoption of the modified agenda and same was supported by Mr. N.B. Ezeokoli
MINUTES OF LAST DEPARTMENTAL MEETING
Minutes of the last Departmental meeting could not be taken due to the on-going Joint Action Committee (JAC) strike/industrial action.

STUDENTS REGISTRATION AND COMMENCEMENT OF LECTURES FOR THE FIRST SEMESTER 2017/2018 SESSION
The Chairman/HOD appreciated members for attending to their lectures and other given assignments despite the on-going JAC strike action. He however, reported that ESM 201 and ESM 403 which are being handled by Dr. Oyewole and Dr. Oladokun (adjunct lecturers) were yet to commence. This is because the renewal of their appointment is still being processed.
On students registration, the level registration officers gave updates on the level of success attained so far and also reported that there were some errors in the FIRARS students online registration platform which delayed the completion of registration for 300 and 400 levels particularly, among other challenges. Dr. M.A. Olukolajo, the Department registration officer requested to know the correct units to be allotted to ESM 413, EMT 301 and ESM 301 because of differences noted in on FIRARS, Students Handbook and Curriculum prepared by the Department. It was agreed that units with which students results were processed should be adhered to. Consequently, the correct position is as follows:
ESM 413 should be 1 unit against 2 units on FIRARS and Students Handbook
EMT 301 should be 2 unit against 3 units on FIRARS and Students Handbook
ESM 301 should be 3 unit against 2 units on FIRARS and Students Handbook
SUBMISSION OF UNDERGRADUATE SECOND SEMESTER EXAMINATION RESULTS FOR 2016/2017 SESSION
The Chairman reported that the results have started coming in. He advised members to get the results ready as this may be formally demanded without long notice.
2016/2017 SESSION SIWES PROGRAMME, REPORT AND PRESENTATION
Dr. (Mrs.) M.A. Ajayi the Department SIWES Officer reported that SIWES programme for 2016/2017 was successful as all concerned students have returned back to new session. Wednesday, 27 March 2018 was proposed and approved for oral presentation of the report. It was further suggested that the current 400 level students should be sensitized as they prepare to undertake their SIWES as well.
REQUEST FOR CHANGE OF DEPARTMENT
The Chairman reported that we have two candidates who have applied to change to our Department. Their details are as follows:

SENATE REPORT
The Chairman reported that there has not been Senate Meeting, thus there is no report in this regard.
REPORT FROM PG. BOARD
Dr.(Mrs) Oladapo reported that application of candidates who sought admission into various postgraduate programmes of the Department have been treated already. However, it was noted that some candidates did not complete their application properly. Such students have been advised to go and perfect their online application to facilitate the admission process.
MRE PROGRAMME
The Chairman informed the house that he attended annual late Ekpeyong memorial lecture organized by NIESV. He seized the opportunity to advertise our MRE programme to our professional colleagues. Many of them have indicated keen interest in the programme; however, now that application has closed, the Chairman is making plans to seek re-opening of application portals to attract these professionals and thereby boost the University internally generated revenue (IGR).
Dr. (Mrs) R.A. Oladapo reiterated that there is still confusion at PG School over our MRE and M.Tech. programme. There is still error in the issuance of M.Tech. certificate to MRE students. It was agreed that strong letters should be written to the PG School, VC and other stakeholders to formally report this anomaly. Beside this, a delegate should be sent from the Department to the Dean of PG School to have a round table discussion to forestall re-occurrence.
WELFARE
Miss A.E. Nwosu reported decudctions made from members salary for last year is yet to be remitted by Busary Unit to our Departmental Savings Account. This is due the ongoing JAC strike action.
Welfare gift was approved to be given to Mr. V.O. Ige whose wife put to bed recently.
AOB
Dr. S.P. Akinbogun thanked members for the submission of proposed project topics for 500 level students and promised that the collated topics would be pasted for students attention and action without further delay.
Dr. S.P. Akinbogun further reported that Facilities Management Seminar could not hold as earlier schedule. Students could not meet with the earlier date. Consequently, the seminar was rescheduled for Friday 23rd February 2018 at 10:00 am and in two groups.
Mr. D.N. Mbazor reported that air conditioner in his office is faulty and requested immediate repair because of the current harsh weather condition. The Chairman promised to look into this.
Dr. B. Ojo expressed concern over three of our postgraduate students who having defended their projects but still have their results unprocessed. This situation is frustrating to the concerned students. Dr.(Mrs.) R.A. Oladapo explained that the delay is due to the on-going JAC strike action and not directly the fault of the Department. Dr. A.O. Adewusi explained that the computer programme being used to compute the results is yet to be perfected. Thus, the result prepared at the Department based on known format was returned for re-presentation. The HOD was advised to write official letter to the PG School to see to this situation.

Miss A.E. Aku moved the motion to end the meeting, this was supported by Dr.A.O. Adewusi. Professor M.O. Bello led the closing prayers and meeting closed at 12:00 noon.
