Welcome to ACS. A very good morning to our principal, Mr. John Devasagayam Seeni, Senior Assistants, technical officer for poetry, Cik Tham Woon Booi, teachers from various schools and, participants. We are here today for the Kinta District 2019 Poetry Recitation Competition.

I, ____________, will be the Emcee for today along with me are __________, as the timekeeper and __________ as the time recorder.

First, let me introduce to all of you the judges for today’s competition. The chief judge is Pn. Suhaila bt.

Before we proceed further, do allow me to give a brief explanation of the rules and regulations of this competition.

The competition is open to students of government-aided secondary schools from Form 1 to Form 3 only.

The competition is divided into two section

Section 1: Prepared Poem

Participants will recite a prepared poem on given themes for not less than 5 minutes and not more than 7 minutes.

A bell will be rung once at the 5th minute and twice at the 7th minute to indicate the end of the presentation time

The poem must be entirely authentic and original

The poem presented MUST NOT touch on sensitive issues such as race, religion, stereotyping, politics and so on.

Participants are not allowed to refer to any notes or printed materials during the presentation of the prepared poem.

Participants must start the recitation by mentioning the title and the writer of the poem.

And finally, all the judges’ decisions are final

For those who would like to use the toilets, the males can use the toilet which is near the library while the females can use the toilet which is opposite the science lab corridor.

Let’s take a short break. Participants are required to be at the quarantine room which is opposite the entrance of this auditorium by ______ p.m. while the others please be seated patiently and enjoy the music. Reminder, food and beverages are not allowed in the auditorium. For those who would like to use the toilets, the males can use the toilet which is located near the library while the females can use the toilet which is opposite the science lab corridor.

Good afternoon everyone we are back for the second section which is the impromptu poem.

Section 2: Impromptu Poem

All participants will be given a theme and a quarantine time of 10 minutes to prepare their impromptu poem.

Participants will be quarantined in the classroom which is opposite this auditorium’s entrance

The time allocated for the recitation of the impromptu poem is not less than 2 minutes and not more than 3 minutes

A bell will be rung once at the 2nd minute and twice at the 3rd minute to indicate the end of the presentation time.
