Introduction
This paper examines the value of vision and mission statements in Verizon Communications Company, their roles, and impact in facilitating progress and advancements of the organization. The study of vision and mission statements in Verizon emphasizes on explaining the congruence and compatibility of the key strategic goals align with its vision and mission statements of the company. In turn, this helps assert the value and importance of having a vision and mission statements in a company’s operations, guide their objectives, and shape how the company’s leadership steer growth and development setting the future of the company. The Verizon Communications Company is working in the telecom industry under the leadership of Lowell McAdam as the CEO critically focuses on its vision and mission statements to achieve the set goals and objectives of the organization (Verizon, 2017). As well, the vision and mission statements are salient features setting the milestone for the basis of values and organizational culture which emphasizes on integrity, morals and work ethics.
Congruence of the Verizon’s Company Mission and Vision Statements
The company’s mission statement states that “As a leader in communications, Verizon’s mission is to enable people and business to communicate with each other. We are also committed to providing full and open communication with our customers, employees, and investors” (Verizon, 2017). The key entities of the mission statement of Verizon are enhancing communication by making use of all digital devices available around the world. The aim is to make digital communication easier by strengthening people and businesses to easily understand the approach and how to go about the use of electronic communication devices. The mission statement of the company guides the strategic plans of the company to align with its long-term goals by bringing the diverse population into their workforce from various corners of the world. In turn, this helps to disseminate knowledge and understanding of the use of digital communications platform.
The company lacks a precise and concisely spelled vision statement to steer its operations and future objectives. Instead, Verizon provides for diverse responsibilities they take care of in implementing outstanding strategies derived from effective communication and use of digital communication contents. As the continues to rapidly diversify in technology, the level of advancement provides a unique platform that needs to be tapped as an opportunity that advanced use of data and information as a capital business. For example, Verizon’s responsibilities widely recognized include, “delivering the connected world, creating better future for students, focusing on growth through innovative technology,” among others (Verizon, 2017). The level of efficiency in the company’s operations focus on achieving the highest goal in the use of technology, and digital communication means across the world.
Hence, the congruence of the company’s operations and its mission and vision statements has been focused on enhancing telecommunications and Verizon’s venture into digital contents. The advancement of technology around the world creates a critical venture for the company’s utilization of its goals and objectives clearly merged into its mission statements. The lack of a concise vision statement for Verizon eliminates the opportunity to assess the congruence of the company’s ventures in line with the vision statements as it pursues its short-term and long-term goals and objectives. Instead, the responsibilities of the company’s including delivering the connected world through innovative technology provide a clear relation to the company’s operations and objectives as per the mission statements.

As the company provides a vision of advancing in technology that touches lives, the mission remains focused on enabling people and businesses communicate with each other. This is focused on the company’s commitment to delivering the promise of a connected and digital world. The implementation of innovative programs through the company’s networks, empowering businesses and entrepreneurs has been an essential step for the company to live its mission (Manning & Curtis, 2014). This facilitates the ability of the company to deliver knowledge of digital communications to the people who need it most across the world. Verizon Communications Company has in its history over the years been committed to building and advancing digital infrastructures and solutions to the issues of technology through preparing tech savvy population. In turn, the company enhances the building of a more connected community across the word with skills and knowledge to make digital communication happen.
The visionary leadership led by CEO Lowell McAdam and a team of others including Martin Burvill, Eric Cevis, Roy H. Chestnutt, Kenneth Dixon, among other top leaders have been at the forefront of the company’s realization of its vision and mission statements as their guiding principles. For example, CEO McAdam has been at the front line of inducing corporate values and beliefs that impact on working ethics and integrity of conduct of their employees. In turn, the high level of company values and culture adherence has been critical for the company’s achievements other objectives (Palmer, Dunford, & Akin, 2009). Verizon boasts of an ethical and corporate culture to be a leading example in the telecommunications business. The company has never been more focused to live its mission than illustrated in its commitment to foster an inclusive environment enhancing the diversity of both suppliers and employees. The diversity in the company is a salient feature leading to the company’s realization of its success in technology and innovations.
Importance of Setting a Tone Within an Organization
The setting of a tone within an organization is a crucial feature that sets the behavior of practice and a vital foundation to guide a responsible corporate culture. The tone sets the model of operations initiated from the top of the company, thus, guiding the company’s employees as the model of functioning. The tone in Verizon is setting by the company’s CEO Lowell C. McAdam is a highly ethical person who believes in integrity strongly to drive the company’s vision and mission to success. The CEO, McAdam has been critical in adhering to visionary leadership, hence, profoundly impacting to enhanced growth of the company. Verizon exponentially grows and touches diverse lives across the world through technology by ensuring the ease of communication and reaching one another. The knowledge and skills dissemination has been a critical feature in setting the tone of operations. In turn, providing essential guiding and set of operational bases.

The ability of a company to have a clear and concise vision enhances its capacity to streamline its plans and objectives towards a common purpose. The vision provides a company with the ability to induce and shape corporate values that enhance responsibilities of the employees’ commitment to the organization. The values in an organization offer clear directions of the company’s intentions, hence, merging the diversity in an organization working towards a common goal (Manning & Curtis, 2014). In turn, the vision plays a key role in the organization’s strategic planning by aligning all the short-term and long-term goals towards a precise course of operations. The vision defines the company’s operating procedure, culture, and shape financing habits. In Verizon, the vision of the company is embedded on visionary leadership and aspiration of achieving a digitally connected world.
How Verizon has Set the Tone of their Organization within their Vision and Mission Statements
The organizational tone within Verizon is set within the basis of social responsibility of the company to deliver a digitally connected world. The emphasis on the use of technology has been a salient feature for the realization of the company’s set goals and objectives. The Verizon rides on the diversity team build from different corners of the world, skills, and intelligence of the employees. As well, the visionary leadership of Verizon lead by McAdam as the CEO helps set the tone of the company operations. For example, the critical basis of organizational tone in Verizon focuses on implementing a corporate culture that is ethical and values integrity. It is essential for the employees and organization in general to portray exceptional leadership and operation organization tone. The mission of Verizon focuses on placing the company as a global leader in telecommunications. Thus, the tone set based on the mission makes it exceptional for Verizon pursuance of its goals, objectives, mission and company’s vision.
