Write a 2-3page paper on the philosophy of leadership and core leadership skills within the organization you chose in the Module One journal. Include a reflection that addresses the following questions: What is your personal leadership style? What was the process you took to get to that style of leadership? Has your style changed during the past five years? If so, what has caused it to change, and how did it change? If not, what makes your style consistent?

The paper discusses the leadership skills and core competencies used in Verizon to spur its growth and development over the years. Working in the telecom industry, Verizon has maintained its level of competitiveness and visionary leadership that sustains the company’s better performance in a competitive industry. In this discuss, we illustrate Verizon’s CEO Lowell McAdam as the head strategists in driving effective organizational leadership skills and philosophy to guide the company’s operations and functions. The central tenets of McAdams in pursuance of leadership and better performance in the management of Verizon, he holds close that “Integrity is everything, trust your gut and act, you always have a higher gear” (LinkedIn, 2017). As well, the discusses my personal style of leadership.
In the case analysis about Verizon company, its management and organizational operations are highly guided and influenced by the top CEO Lowell McAdams inducing the philosophy of integrity and values. As a strong believer of moral values and work ethics, McAdams strives to develop a corporate culture that is nothing less of adherence to the code of conduct and value of integrity in the workplace. McAdams asserts “Never Cut Corners. Integrity is Everything” (Verizon.com, 2017). This is a philosophy introduced by the leadership of McAdams to ensure that all employees value ethics and integrity in the workplace. In turn, the organization is bound to develop a strong workforce that ice accountable and transparent allowing all its operations to be efficient.
In the organizational strategy drawn up by McAdams and his team in 2016 to guide the Verizon’s continued performance and competitiveness in the industry has a profound influence on the company’s philosophy and leadership. The strategy provides that the first goal is “sustaining quality and performance leadership in all of our networks” (Verizon, 2017). This forms the basis of the guiding principles of the organization’s operations and functionalities in the industry allowing it to achieve high results. The determination of sustaining quality is a guiding philosophy of the organization that requires employees to improve the productivity and services provided based on quality (Koestenbaum, 2002). As well, performance leadership requires the organization to develop better leadership skills at all management levels to create a better work environment. In turn, the organization at improving its operations and performance in the industry.
Additionally, Verizon operates based on high level of competency that is guided by values and strong work ethics. This helps elevate the leadership and organizational skills to enhance the functionalities of the company. In turn, the performance of Verizon proves of the efficiency of its leadership through sustained lead position among the telecom industries. The exceptional leadership skills portrayed by the company’s CEO McAdams reflects on the effectiveness of the organizational leadership inserted in Verizon’s operations and continued competitiveness (Verizon, 2017). The CEO is the top figure in the organization which drives change, operating philosophy, and leadership skills in the organization. It is key for the top leadership to serve as the role model of leadership skills and the guiding principles to their juniors. Therefore, the juniors can emulate and adopt their leaders’ skills across the organization improving its positivism and increased performance.
Personal Leadership Style
My personal leadership style is presented as a transformative leadership approach that strives to introduce change and development in various spheres. The level of competency is shown to be high influenced by passion and desires to induce development (Northouse, 2012). The leadership style follows high-intensity desires to bring the success of operations and high ambitious that increase risk approach to elevate the company’s service. I tend to be the person who sees far and aims high to achieve the impossible in a strategic move over time. This allows the capacity to accommodate other people’s views and opinions to increase the pool of alternatives for the goals intended in an organization. As well, this is seen as a way of showing value and importance of every employee in an organization allowing them to feel part of the leadership making my leadership skills accommodative.
Similarly, the ability to aim for workable solutions is significant I leadership which has always been my aspirations. I tend to desire to be at the top of every gathering I engage with, sharing insights on possible solutions to problems facing the current situation. As a realist, looking for solutions that can perfectly fit the problem makes my leadership style more pragmatic.
Therefore, to achieve the oriented results requires patience and ethics grounds of operations. I value and respect work ethics increasing the intensity of operational management that can draw only the best practices with the legal procedures. This informs my leadership philosophy and nurtures the skills to conform to a set of standards that keep them in check and always focused towards better performance. As well, bring all colleagues on board.
