1. Explain the unfair dismissal provisions of the Fair Work Act in Australia – including the adverse action sections – and examine why employers link unfair dismissal legislation with employment levels.

2. Define and discuss the role of employer associations and compare and contrast the services provided by employer associations with those provided by unions to their members. Are employer associations merely unions for employers?

3. Discuss the reasons put forward for the decline in union membership in recent times and investigate the various reasons why people join unions and the likely consequences to employers – and managers – if this decline in union membership continues.

4. Provide an overview of the Industrial Relations system of a country or region of your choice and compare and contrast it with the Australian system.
