Ignorance is a poison that kills love, friendship, and all the good feelings. This adage holds true to students because they should find out knowledge for them to succeed for if not, they might go the wrong path just like what happens if you don’t know the most preferred school for your chosen strand in senior high school. That is why the researchers came up with this research to give the Junior High school students a guide in choosing a school for Senior High especially to those students who want to pursue STEM strand which is in demand in the Philippines and is believed to be a key in achieving progress of a country.
According to Merriam Webster dictionary, the word satisfaction is the act of providing what is needed or desired; it is the act of satisfying a need or desire, or a result that deals with the problem or complaint in an acceptable way. In short, satisfaction is satisfying in something that you desired, and the researchers ask the K-12 students about their satisfaction to their chosen school to know what is the preferred school in Lipa to Tanauan area.
The K-12 or Kinder to Grade 12 Program was signed by President Benigno Aquino III into law. It is also known as Republic Act 10533 and signed in the law on May 15, 2013, in the Philippines. The K-12 covers kindergarten and 12 years of basic education such as 6 years of primary education, 4 years of junior high school and 2 years of senior high school to provide sufficient time for mastery of concept and skills, develop long-life learners and prepare the graduate for tertiary education.From the data of early registration of DepEd, it showed that over 67% of the incoming Grade 11 students will go to public schools, the whole 33% will go to private school.The students of Grade 10 have different factors in choosing their strand in senior high school. They based it in affordability, their skills, parents’ want and more. However, in choosing a strand in senior high school, Junior high school students should prefer or prioritize the quality of teaching and the demand in the coming years. Some students of Grade 11-12 have possibilities that they are not satisfied with their chosen school because of the quality of education and expenses particularly tuition fees that some cannot afford it.Technology has been playing a big role in today’s everyday life. Everything seems to be going digital and most operations are now moving towards the automated route. Even education has been affected by this rapid transformation as more unconventional means of instruction have been developed ” from online courses to online file sharing and also online jobs. Because of the recent technological advancements, there has been an increase in the demand for professionals in the fields of science and technology, so the STEM strand students are demanded especially for the Philippines for the advancement of technology which is the problem of the country.Dr. Cynthia Hedreyda, NIMBB director, said that while there is limitless information on biotechnology, there is not enough popular awareness of the subject. Biotechnology is defined as the use of living organisms, especially microorganisms, in industrial, agricultural, medical and other technological applications. She said biotechnology education in the Philippines is disseminated primarily through workshops and symposia conducted by scientists, people from the academe, government agencies like the DA and the Department of Science and Technology Agriculture Secretary. Technology can help the progress of the biotechnology in the country. It shows that technology can give a huge help even Philippines is agricultural country. If building prototypes and robots, crunching numbers, analyzing the ways of life, and all things tech interest of a student then the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) strand is the right fit for the students.Through the STEM strand, students will get to learn the basics of STEM-related disciplines such as Calculus, Biology, Physics, and Chemistry. Students will get an overview of the foundation of most STEM fields which basically deal with several branches of physical, Earth and life sciences, and pure and Applied Mathematics that may help the society to grow but there are only few people want STEM. According to The State of STEM Education told Through 12 Stats (2017), 2.4 million STEM jobs will go unfilled but they are projected to grow 13% between 2017 and 2027 and out of 100 STEM occupations which is low progress.Some of the former Grade 10 students chose private school for STEM because of just experiencing a more flexible curriculum, uniform and more. Some think that private school is good for their chosen track because it is funded but the problem is, they are not sure that it is true that’s why the researchers come up with this study to find out what is the preferred school in STEM strand. Furthermore, Bugtongnapulo Integrated National High School will pilot its Senior High School for school year 2019-2020. It will offer Technical-Vocational strand which is EPAS and academic strands which are ABM and HUMSS. Knowing that it will not offer STEM strand, the researchers want to give guidance to students who will pursue that strand. This thesis paper can be their reference in choosing Senior High School with STEM strand as the results of this study mainly focused on satisfaction of the current students on their chosen schools. At the same time, the researchers want to give the school the needed information to prepare it for possible offering of STEM come next school year. Bugtongnapulo Integrated National High School will have a glimpse of students’ standards in choosing a school for their preferred strand, which they can apply for succeeding years that can also contribute to the school’s progress.
