Having a job is an essential part in living, it provides money for the person, allowing personal benefaction. It also provides benefits for the business company worked for, as theres an active factor working for them. Therefore, the country benefits from this, as every individual is important in shaping the countrys economy and reputation. However, recently, artificial intelligence was introduced and due to its extreme smart features, it was believed that it would take over the jobs of people, thus leaving them jobless, as Maris College Institute identifies in a report that 97 percent of U.
S workers believe that most jobs will be automated.
It is indeed true that technology and artificial intelligence would transform and change many sectors of life. However, it is not clear yet if these changes will be beneficial or harmful or even both for some sectors. Looking at The Oxford University researchers Carl Frey and Michael Osborne, they studied 702 occupational groupings and eventually found out that 47 percent of U.S workers have a high probability of seeing their jobs automated over the next 20 years, thus leaving less room space for jobs.
However, and looking closely, not all jobs are equal. Therefore, not all jobs will be affected by artificial intelligence. Accountants, telemarketers, junior lawyers are at higher risk of automation than jobs that require innovation and creative knowledge like the education sector and health care, arts and media. As some areas might be affected by artificial intelligence because theyre more precise, cant be distracted and fast, some areas would in fact, have more employees in the presence of artificial intelligence, thus presenting the idea that artificial intelligence would provide more jobs than it would take. Adding to that, theres a big misconception on job availability. People think that theres a given, unchanged amount of jobs available and that we all must fight for it in the presence of new technology and artificial intelligence. However, in the presence of that, indeed there will be some jobs which will be abandoned but there will also be new jobs emerging, further filling out the amount of jobs lost and more. For example, consider the ATM, it is a technology that replaces banks tellers, and however, there are more tellers in the present than when ATMs were firstly released. You might be wondering how that happened. It is a quiet simple matter if you carefully and logically look at it from different perspectives. ATMs magnificently lowered the cost of opening bank branches, and banks reacted to that by opening more, which required hiring more tellers doing some how different work like introducing people to credit cards, loans and such. This is supported by the book of the university of Boston economist James Bessen.
Looking furthermore and based on a new report from the World Economic Forum (WEF) called The Future of Jobs 2018., it is supposed that artificial intelligence will create 58 million new contemporary jobs by 2022 and all the machines and algorithms in the workplace are dismayingly expected to create 133 million new different and interactive roles.
With the arising affects and trends of technology and artificial intelligence, changes must be made in order to keep up with this fast evolution and big step towards technology. In order to maintain a good career for the future leaders, thus leading to a greater country. Governments would have to re-evaluate their educational systems, and companies would have to reconsider their structure and culture, and finally, we would have to affect each other to grow, learn and sharpen our skills in different sectors of life. Also suggesting the fact that we should be more prepared for the emerging roles and required skills to develop faster and more efficiently to keep up with the progressing world that is coming towards a big jump that would affect everyone.
In conclusion, artificial intelligence would dramatically affect many sectors in life. Many have the idea that it would take jobs. However, realistically, and looking carefully, artificial intelligence and robots will mainly replace tasks, not jobs. It will provide people with hundreds of jobs than it would take.
