Your draft should meet the following requirements: Your argument should be complete; only the conclusion should be (possible) absent at this point
The draft should be properly MLA-formatted; refer to an online example in order to ensure that your draft is complying with MLA standards (https://www.easybib.com/guides/mla-formatting-guide/ (Links to an external site.))
Your paper should be at the absolute minimum four full pages long — that’s FULL pages; if your fourth page is halfway written, then you have 3 1/2 pages, not four; if your fourth page is three-quarters of the way full, then you have 3 3/4 pages, not four
You should be using a minimum of two (2) scholarly sources
You should use your scholarly sources a minimum of (3) times in the essay
Your paragraphs should essentially conform to what’s been previously expected of analytical body paragraphs (Snow, Glass, Apples Analysis)
Beware of the following:
No five-paragraph essays; if you’re writing what is essentially a five-paragraph essay, you’re on the wrong track
Watch out for six-paragraph essays; it’s sometimes the case that a writer will avoid the five-paragraph essay by simply tacking on another paragraph; but remember that the five-paragraph essay isn’t just a problem because of five paragraphs (which really isn’t a problem); it’s a problem because the points don’t connect in a systematically logical manner. Here is a recap of the formal prompt.
This is the course’s formal academic paper.
You’ll be writing a rhetorical analysis of your game, based upon your written game assets and your sample playing session.
The paper will focus on how you created your game’s intended reception — some primary message meant to serve as your game’s tonal focus. We’ve discussed this idea explicitly in class, and you’ve created a vlog entry covering the main idea. Now the question is this: how did you incorporate that idea into your game, such that you created the strongest intended reception possible?
The paper will satisfy the following requirements:
4 – 6 pages long; in this case 4 full pages will be regarded as baseline minimal; if you wish to write more than 6 pages, you can, but if you’re going over 8 pages, you’re probably going beyond the assignment’s scope
MLA formatted
conforming to the standards of revised and formal academic English
You are free to write about the following:
How you altered the Dead Simple RPG rules in order to emphasize a particular reception;
How you created your initial scenario in order to do the same;
How you conducted your initial role-playing session in order to emphasize the reception made possible by the rules and the game scenario you’ve created.
The basic idea for your thesis is something along these lines:
Given the intended reception, I used [my selected genre / rules / scenario / setting] in order to create that reception based upon [some particular idea about how the players would interact with same]. This paper will demonstrate that these strategies were effective and why <OR> this paper will demonstrate some issues with these strategies and will further demonstrate how they could be definitively improved.
Do not simply copy and paste that sentence, however. Consider this a basic template — your own thesis should be significantly altered and very specific to your own application.
For the body of the paper, you’ll select pieces of evidence from your rules, scenario, and playing session, and you’ll use academic evidence to support the assertions you’re making about those examples. In every paragraph, you’ll be expected to use both evidence from your text along with academic evidence.
The audience is scholarly and formal. Your tone should match the audience’s expectations.
