The data for the qualitative part of the research was gathered by observing some scenes of the selected movies of the year 2012-2018 including Upside Down (2012), Oblivion (2013), The Host (2013), The Maze Runner (2014), Chappie (2015), Star Trek Beyond (2016), Transformers: The Last Knight (2017), Mortal Engines (2018). Certain scenes from these movies were highlighted to prove hyperreality. Along with this social behaviors of people were observed that how they react under certain situations. The scenes highlighted from the selected movies ranging from the year 2012-2018 infers that the use of hyperreality in technocultural depiction has become a trend and every single movie of postmodern era is to some extent is depicting unreal imagery in terms of technology. The gathered data represents that the film industry is more focused towards overemphasizing the role of technology and has crossed the boundary line of reality.

Further it was analyzed that now this hyperreality has been resided inside the minds of people and they prefer the sugarcoated reality than the actual reality. The individuals of postmodern era are found to be more artificial and less natural.

Moreover through interviews it was noticed that most of the people preferred technology over doing physical effort for something. The answer to every question was mostly in favor of technological use. Thus this depicts how people are strongly appealed by technology that they have forgotten that they are sharper than technology and have more abilities than these gadgets. It is seen that people are losing their values and culture in running behind the charm of becoming modern through technological advancement. In addition to this humanity seems to be faded as everyone is concerned for his own comfort and no one wants to help others. It can be said that the world may have become a global village due linkage of different communities by telecommunication but on the other hand unity, kindness and care on individual level has vanished. People are more available for the person living far away from them but are least concerned for the ones living in front of them.

Further general observations on societal level showed that people least bothered about their behaviors. A person seems to be more interested in recording an accident scene than to help the people who are facing that accident. Little deeds of kindness have completely faded away from the personality of man as he is all the time busy in his gadgets and has to no time to look beyond them. These gadgets have made man a puppet and he is dancing on its directions.



The dissertation is set out to examine the effects of hyperreality in glorifying technology and how this technocultural trend is dehumanizing people and making the robots. It seems like the whole personality of an individual is being destroyed as films play a key role in shaping the mind sets of person because they tend to learn and idealize more through visualizing things. It is observed that people have lost their morals and are only running behind materialized life devoid of care or kindness towards other beings. Moreover it is noticed that people have become so used to hyperreality that they do not seem normal rather they are found confused in their own whirl of dreams. They have become addicted to technology and they cannot imagine their life without it. For them spending a whole day in front of their laptop is more entertaining than spending few hours with a group of people or family and friends. Even they prefer to talk with their near and dear ones on phones rather than facing them. This infers that technology has made them anti-social and they avoid each other. Also it looks like man has become only a tool in hands of technology and has lost his own senses. He is blindly running behind the technological advancement and is drifting away from the core motive of his creation that was to help his fellow beings and to be kind with them.

The study longs for to change the trend of hyperreality and technoculture in films and to make people aware of the fact that this technology was only made to lessen the burden not to get lost in it forget one’s own value. Secondly interviews were held for observing the psyche of people, how they manage their work routine and relations. It has merged physical reality with virtual reality and human intelligence with artificial intelligence. Due to this reason every single individual of postmodern era in found to be more involved into a hyper-real world than in this physical world. The technological advancement in postmodern era has made people robots and humanity is fading away. People love to see exaggerated fiction stories rather than reality based thing. Even reality has become so blurred that it is unable to distinguish what is real and what only looks like reality and is not real in actual. In postmodern era visual arts is found to be the most effective art most commonly films and has maintained its repute among people. But this postmodern film industry is seen to be shadowed under the fake glitter of technology. Postmodern film makers have given more importance to technology and have induced it in our culture by depicting technology as the only power without which life is useless.

The term “Technoculture” is a postmodern trend and looks for the effects of technology over culture. In postmodern era technology has become so advanced that it has over shadowed the high status of a human being. In postmodern world everything is shaped by technology and science even our culture. Technoculture explores that how powerful the scientific ideas are and what impact they are leaving on our natural world, how the natural human communication and activities are damaged by the scientific advancement.

The media has been the most powerful agent in formulating and transferring the impacts and expression of things in the minds of common people (Thornborrow 2000; Wodak & Busch 2004). Media is the actual role player for portraying the truth to the common people but the situation is opposite in reality. Media on one hand is the representative of truth but on the other hand it exaggerates the reality and shows fascinating things which have no existence in reality. Media is the only medium on which everyone relies in order to get to know the reality but media in itself is unbalanced and is always leaning towards one side for its own benefits. Now days a trend is set up in film industry to on air technology based stuff and to make people wonder how advance life is going to be in future.

The objective of this dissertation is to look for the effects of technology and hyperreality over humanity and how these films are vandalizing pure human nature. Technoculture is a typical postmodern trait as industrialization has taken over humanity in postmodern era. This trait has ruined the core concept of humanity and has objectified man as tool in the hands of technology. On the other hand hyperreality has faded the need of reality. In this postmodern era a large number of films are based on exaggerated stories flaunting the advanced technological atmosphere which in actual have no connection with reality. This study is carried out in order to realize the dire importance of human relations and to think that in what direction we are heading as films play the role of a catalyst in shaping the thought of a society. The study appraises how hyperreality in depicting the role of technology in films is ruining the minds of individuals and is leading them towards an abyss of disillusionment.

In order to get account of the effects of hyperreality in films on human behavior, hyperreality in films is considered as variable “a” that is an independent variable and human behavior is considered as variable “b” that gets affected by variable a. In order to check out the damage that has been caused to the personality of an individual (variable b) due to the use of hyperreality and technocultural depiction in films (variable a) following research questions are designed on which the study will proceed.

• How hyperreality in depicting future of technology in films is inculcating artificiality in the minds of people and drifting them away from humanity?

• How man is being portrayed as a tool in the hands of technology?

• How is the core concept of humanity destroyed through Technoculture?

The study is beneficial as less attention is given on the issue of hyperreality in terms of technoculture in films and its effects on human nature. The study marks a difference as it focuses on man and strives to revive the original status of man. It generalizes the need to ponder over our media policy and to make sure that film industry gives more attention towards reality than hyperreality. It also urges the dire need to stop the objectification of man as man is more powerful than technology.

Up till here the background description of hyperreality in technocultural depiction in films and how it is affecting the individuals is described. The second chapter gives details about technoculture and hyperreality and what related works have been done in this field. The third chapter of this research paper talks about the methods used for collecting data and what is the opted design to pursue the research. The fourth chapter is the most important one as it figures out the follies associated with depicting hyperreality and in what direction this trend is leading the human minds. The fifth chapter of this dissertation gives the overall view of the study and concludes the whole scenario and suggests that preference should be given to reality based stories in order to have a healthy society.

Further a survey is carried out for both producers and consumers of comic art and with this gathered data another conceptualization based on five points is created that give an insight into producing effective believable texts. Finally suggestions are given in order to utilize hyperreality to improve professional communication.

It looks for changes in human behavior, how robotic they have become because of the trend of watching these technology based films.



In this study some selected movies of postmodern era launched during the duration 2012-2018 are observed. For this purpose certain scenes of the movie are highlighted in which hyperreality is used in presenting the fascinating image of technology. The overall trend of hyperreality in depicting technological advancement and its effects over diminishing human interaction is observed. Besides this interviews are also designed for analyzing the effects of hyperreality on people. Moreover the social relations and social behaviors of these people are also observed. Mixed method research approach is used for this study as data is collected and analyzed both qualitatively and quantitatively. The research design opted for this study is the embedded mixed method design which will proceed according to the following flow chart.


Falsification and distortion of reality through hyperreality and technoculture has become a common trend in postmodern era and it has been a focus of many theorist and writers. The study appraises the drifted human behavior due to the trend of hyperreality and technoculture and urges to give more importance to reality rather than hyperreality. It also infers that with the change of trend in films the mind sets of people can be changed as the films play a key role in shaping a society and this will contribute towards humanism.
