Children are expected to develop in these domains; a) Physical development. b) Communication and intellectual development. c) Social, emotional and behavioural development. Physical development: Involves both growth and the capability of using muscles and sections of the body for particular skills. Both larger muscle movements (gross) and smaller movements (fine) motor skills contribute to physical development which means that children and young people are expected to generally acquire a set of skills by a certain age.

Between 0-3 yearsYoung babies can barely control their bodies which means their ability to move relies on a sequence of reflexes, the older babies get they begin to develop sequences of movements and actions such as crawling, sitting, grabbing, pointing, running rolling, hopping, jumping, and so on known as the gross motor skills’.During their second year, children are expected to be much better in controlling own movement.

Around the age of three, children are beginning to develop take interest in painting, colouring, and scribbling skills which are known as fine motors’. They start to stare or gaze at, and flip the pages of books. Also by this age they are expected to be holding a cup and feeding themselves.Between 3-7 years.At this stage, children are expected to be perfecting the developed skills up to this point, they become much more confident and more competent in fine motor skills such as cutting, writing and drawing.Between 7-12 years.Children would start to have hobbies and interest such as sports, dance, drama, and songs.Children will continue to develop and refine many of their skills. The girls will start to show signs of early puberty from age 10-11.
