INTRODUCTION
Background of the Study
Lets face it! Working on board a ship is not only tough physically but mentally as well.
Dealing continuously with conflicting opinions, racing nerves, and altering egos, a mariner fortunately or unfortunately falls prey to a system wherein molding ones self according to a situation becomes imperative.
Based on study of Hattendorf (2009), Maritime is an industry that once employed enormous numbers on land and shore. It covers a wide restricted element of history that often uses a global approach, although national and regional histories remain weighty.
As an academic subject, it often crosses the boundaries of standard disciplines, focusing on understanding humankinds various relationship to oceans, seas, and major waterways of the globe, maritime history records and interprets past events involving vessels, shipping, and navigation.
Being seafarer is one of the most critical jobs in the world. Lot of Filipinos whos taking this job is facing some problems that affect their whole career life (Prisno III, 2011).
The issue of safety at sea is an issue that has got more and more attention recently due to the rising concern for the environment by the public. Authorities have to take measures to confine the risk of having an accident that might cause damage to the environment. Two of the measures that authorities can choose to implement is pilotage and vessel traffic services (VTS). These two safety systems are often combined and do often operate in the same area and on the same object i.e. the ship; moreover, they do it simultaneously. The fact of having these two systems acting in the same area might, under certain circumstances, affect each other in a negative way – resulting in that the desired safety level is not met, this fact is similar to what Perrow describes he’s book Normal Accidents (Perrow, 1999).
According to Morgan, M. (2016), a captain is, simply, overall in charge of the entire vessel and the highest authority at sea. More specifically, he is in charge of safety of the crew, vessel and cargo. He is charged with ensuring that all international and local laws are followed properly, and that all management policies are fully complied with. He is responsible for the navigation and discipline of the crew. In addition, although the Chief Engineer is directly responsibility for the ships HYPERLINK ” t ” machinery or engines, the Chief reports to the Captain on all operational matters, and the movement of the Engines are under the Masters control.
Meanwhile as seafarer today, with intent to feel refreshed and relaxed. They lead to have recreation. According to Alborote, et al. (2013), Recreation is a break from monotony and a diversion from the daily routine. It is a positive change from the stereotypical lifestyle and involves an active participation in entertaining activities that one engages in something he likes. They are a source of joy and they provide relaxation to ones mind and body.

METHODOLOGY
This section of the study provides a thorough discussion of the research design, the methods of data gathering, participants involved in the study, the research instruments, data-gathering procedure, and statistical tools that were employed in the study.
Research Design

Respondents
This study aimed to gather data from the untold stories of the ships masters, the challenges they have encountered over the years before they reached the peak of their career and how they managed to cope with them, and the insights that can be drawn from their experiences. For this purpose, five ship Masters were involved as respondents. The respondents were selected using purposive sampling. According to Crossman, A. (2019), a purposive sample is a non-probability sample that is selected based on characteristics of a population and the objective of the study. This study will utilize a maximum varitaion purposive sampling. The selection of the respondents Masters was based on the following inclusion criteria: (1) They should have acted as Captain of an international vessel for at least five years, (2) They should have sailed with mixed nationalities, (3) They have a record of meaningful, productive and successful life experiences from the bottom to the peak of their career as Captains, and (4) They should at least be between 30 to 50 years old.
After the target respondents had been identified, a letter of invitation was prepared noted by the research adviser and the School Administrator to formally invite the respondents to be part of the study. As soon as they have consented to be part of the study, an individual interview was conducted with them based on the questions prepared. For those who cannot be reached because they were on board, the interview guide was converted into its electronic form and was sent to them via e-mail. This study was conducted during the first semester of the School Year 2019-2020.
