Assess whether individual HR departments should have strategies or whether there should be one overarching strategy for the entire HR team. Explain the advantages and disadvantages of each approach.

Strategies within Human Resource Division

The competitive forces that executives are faced with in the current business set up, and that is continuing to confront them in the future typically needs proper outlining of strategies within the human resource department. It is advisable that a human resource division has one overarching strategy for the whole team and this means that human resource professional oversees the main worker management operation from one central office. One advantage of this kind of plan is that it encourages strategic engagement and planning decisions (Boxall & Purcell, 2011). It is also cost effective since the business can typically function more efficiently, lower potential for process redundancy, and the professionals being able to plan methods of managing cost in human resources for the whole business. The disadvantage associated with this kind of planning is that it is inflexible when it comes to functions needing frequent changes. Individual human resource divisions having strategies is advantageous in that it allows quick and effective handling of human resource functions thus increasing efficiency. However, it does not allow consistency since providing directions from various divisions can be confusing to the workers.
