 2. The differences between centralized and decentralized functions are as follows-
  • In centralized functions, decision making takes place at the upper management level of the organization. On the other hand, the more lower level employees provide input to decision making, the more decentralized the organization is.
  • In centralization, organizational environment is stable. In decentralized organization, the environment is complex and uncertain.
  • in centralized structure, lower level managers are not as capable or experienced as upper level managers. On the other hand, in decentralization, lower level managers are capable and experienced in making decisions.

3. The chain of command is defined as the line of authority extending from upper organisational levels to lower levels of the organization. Chain of command clarifies who reports to whom. Chain of command revolves around three concepts, authority, responsibility and unity of command.

4. Informal management is defined as the management style which prevails in the organisation beyond the formal nature of the organization. These informal management can be of different styles like informal communication, informal design etc. These informal styles of management impact the organization in the decision making process of the managers with more span of management control.

5. The functions of management are as follows-

  • Planning- Planning allows the organization to run smoothly. Planning involves defining a goal and work accordingly to achieve that particular goal.
  • Organizing- It controls the overall structure of the organization. Without the organization structure the day to day workings of the company may get hampered.
  • Staffing- This function controls all recruitment and personnel needs of the company. Main purpose of staffing is to hire right people for the right job.
  • Coordinating- It involves controlling of all organizational functions like staffing, planning and organizing.
  • Controlling- It enables the organization to run in a smooth manner with all the other functions that are present in the organization.
