Could the war have been avoided if the Allies had not appeased Hitler at the Munich Conference in 1938? Why didn’t Great Britain and France take a stronger stand?
Expert Answer
During the Munich agreement, allies tried to appease Hitler but at the same time, the fate of name’s Germany was undergoing serious considerations. Hauler had prepared himself and othera for coup and for the same time Hitler’s assassination was planned. Yes, the war could have been avoided if only England and Germany had stood up to the Hitler. As Winston Churchill referred to it as an “unnecessary war”,the timing of the war was also considered inappropriate. Hitler after being appeased by England and France (allies), took allies ‘ actions of appeasement as coward’ s actions which further added to the coming together of the crisis.
Great Britain and France had a treaty with Germans to not invade the former countries and along with that they had support of dominion. If Britain had gone to war with Germans along side czechoslovakia, dominion would have backed down, France wouldnot have supported this action of great Britain as having depleted army forces would have resulted only in England’s defeat. France was trying to avoid war at all accounts and didn’t like the idea of going to war. Although at that time, Germany’s forces were weak and could not have stood up to the France and Britain’s challenge but waiting till 1939 gave Germans the chance to revitalize their forces.
