Can somebody please help with this question for Senior Project– Systems implementation and integration class. Select a CASE tool—either one that you will use for class, a program that you own, or a tool that you can examine over the Web. Create a list of the capabilities that are offered by the CASE tool. Question Would you classify the CASE tool as upper CASE, lower CASE, or integrated CASE (I-CASE)? Why? I need at leasat 1 page please!!!!!!

This is what I have so far but I need a lot more please try to put it on your own words if possible.

CASE tool are classified upper CASE, lower CASE, or integrated CASE (I-CASE) because depending on their use in various phases of software engineering process.

Upper Case Tools – Upper CASE- tools are used in planning, analysis and design stages of SDLC.

Lower Case Tools – Lower CASE tools are used in implementation, testing and maintenance.

Integrated Case Tools – Integrated CASE tools are helpful in all the stages of SDLC, from Requirement gathering to Testing and documentation.

Thanks, in advanced I always leave good reviews for those who help me out!!!!!

 Solution:-

Introduction to CASE tools –

In software development life cycle, CASE stands for Computer Aided software Engineering. During the software development life cycle CASE tools are used to make the process fast and transparent. The purpose of CASE tools are to automate the software development process. CASE tools are software applications used during the software development life cycle to automate the development tasks or activities. We also mention the software development life cycle phases for reference.

1) Planning

2) Analysis

3) Design

4) Implementation

5) Testing

6) Maintainance

Classifications of CASE tools –

Now we discuss about CASE tools and it’s various classifications. The CASE tools used in SDLC are divided as given below –

(a) Upper CASE Tools –

The Upper CASE tools are used in SDLC process in starting phases. Planning Phase, Analysis phase and Design Phase are phases which uses the Upper CASE tools to complete it’s tasks. First requirement gathered and then development tasks and activities are planned. After analysis the Software design is prepared. The Inputs, outputs, behavior, environment and related activities are described. So the tools are used for example Diagram tools like flowchart, Design tools like animation tools and Analysis tools like requirements analysis are the Upper CASE tools.

So Upper CASE tools are used in SDLC phases which are describing WHAT will be made. In these phase the client is directly involved.

(b) Lower CASE tools –

The lower case tools are used in SDLC phase in which client is not directly involved. The phases which describes that How it will made. So the phases are implementation, Testing and maintenance. The tools are used in implementation Phase are programming tools like inbuilt library, program simulation, and programming languages. Now for Testing there base many testing tools are available and for Maintenance phase the tools are used to track defects and bugs and maintain the quality standards, HP quality center is a tool which can used here.

So these are the Lower CASE tools which used in SDLC phases where described that HOW it will made.

(c) Integrated CASE tools –

The integrated CASE tools are used in SDLC phases from starting to and of the process. These tools will participate in all phases of SDLC. The tools are called integrated because these tools are provides information about WHAT and HOW in SDLC. For example Documentations tools is a CASE tool Hich is used prior to SDLC and it is used until the product is developed, tested and start the real time working. There is a document for all phases step by step and on organized manner.

The tools which are used in whole process of SDLC are called Integrated CASE tools.

So these are CASE tools described above with their different classifications on the basis of their use in SDLC.
