Wht are Psychographics? As the term is self explanatory, Psychographics help a marketeer understand the all immportant question of “why” someone buys a product. Psychographics contains information on spening habits, hobbies, values etc.

Both demographics and psychographics combine together to form buyer or individual persona. Let us take a small example to understand it better. As the question asks to define self demographics v/s self psychographics, we will take our own example.

While you can for sure bracket this individual in certain income group and target products accordingly, you are not sure if this person will buy that product or not. Just by demographics alone, you might want to target club membership for college graduates filled with various outdoor activities but it is highly unlikely that he will buy it. Why will he not buy it, you may ask the question. The answer lies in the psychographics. The person is a volunteer in multiple community forums and loves to help others and add value to their lives. Such a person who definitely like to spend his free time doing something for the community rather than taking a hiking trip.

It is clear from above example that we need both demograhics and psychographics to understand ourself as well as our target market better.
